Last checked October 2026. Where we quote another provider, the figure comes from their own public page on the day we looked, and those pages change without notice. We sell VPS, so weigh our ranking accordingly.
I spent an afternoon reading every "best VPS in India" article on the first two pages of Google. Each one is published by a hosting company, and each one puts that company first. Ours is published by a hosting company as well. What I can do differently is tell you the criteria before the list, keep them to things you can check in a browser, and be specific about where competitors beat us. If a criterion below seems unfair to a provider you like, the fix is to check their page and tell me; I will correct it.
A word on who this is for. If you are a developer who deploys by script and your users are spread across the world, you probably already know you want DigitalOcean or Vultr and this article will not change your mind. It is written for the Indian business, agency, trader or CA firm that needs one or a handful of servers, wants to pay in rupees, and would like the thing to still cost the same next year.
What we measured, and what we did not
Six questions. None needs a benchmark; every one has an answer somewhere on the provider's site or in a five-minute test.
Where exactly is the hardware? "India" is not an answer. Noida and Mumbai are 1,400 km apart, and a Delhi NCR business feels that on every request. A provider that names the city, and better still the building, is telling you something a provider that says "Indian datacenter" is not.
What does the second invoice say? Introductory pricing is normal in this industry. The number that matters is the renewal, and it is usually a few clicks deeper than the headline.
What currency, and does GST appear on the invoice? A USD or EUR bill means conversion at your bank's rate, possibly an international card fee, and GST handled on your side under reverse charge if you are registered. An INR invoice with a GSTIN means input credit.
What is an add-on? DDoS protection, a dedicated IPv4, Windows Server, a control panel and backups are each either in the price or not. Two plans with the same headline can differ by double once you add what you actually need.
Who answers support, and when? An engineer with console access who picks up the phone at 2 a.m. is a different service from a chat bot with human escalation. Neither is wrong; they are different products at different prices.
Will they give you a test IP? If a provider will not let you ping their datacenter before you buy, ask yourself why.
What we did not measure: raw CPU benchmarks, disk throughput, and network speed tests. Partly because every provider on this list uses NVMe and KVM and modern CPUs, so the differences are small and workload-dependent; partly because a benchmark run by a competitor is worth exactly what you would expect. If you want performance numbers, run your own on a trial, with your own application.
The ten, roughly in the order I would suggest them to a business in Delhi NCR
1. URLStart
Our own Cloud VPS, so read this entry as a spec sheet rather than a review. KVM with dedicated vCPU and NVMe in RAID, nine sizes from 4 to 64 GB. The 4 GB plan is ₹584 a month on annual billing or ₹749 monthly, and the renewal is the same number. DDoS scrubbing, a dedicated IPv4 and IPv6, and Windows Server are in the price on every size. Hardware is in a Tier IV datacenter in Noida, Delhi NCR, and in our Mumbai datacenter. Invoices are in INR with a UP GSTIN. Support is engineers with console access, 24 hours, by phone if you prefer.
Who it suits: businesses whose users are in north India, anyone running Windows, RDP, Tally or a trading terminal, agencies that want cPanel or Plesk on a server they control, and anyone who has been burned by a renewal.
Where we lose: Noida and Mumbai cover the north and the west; an audience that is entirely in Bengaluru or Chennai is still nearer to a southern region. Our control panel and API are not in DigitalOcean's league; if your deployment is a Terraform file, you will find us old-fashioned. Contabo will sell you more RAM for the money if you sign for two years. And we are smaller than every other name on this list, which some buyers count against us and some count for us.
2. DigitalOcean
The developer's cloud, and the one I recommend to anyone who deploys by script. The entry Droplet is $4 a month for 1 vCPU, 512 MB and 10 GB of SSD, with a Bangalore region. Hourly billing, an excellent API, managed databases, object storage, Kubernetes, and documentation that other companies copy. The pricing page lists Linux only and does not mention DDoS protection. Billing is in USD.
Who it suits: developers, startups building on an API, anyone in the south. Watch out for the 512 MB entry plan, which is too small for almost anything with a database; price the 2 GB or 4 GB tier instead when comparing. We wrote a fuller comparison with DigitalOcean.
3. Vultr
The same shape as DigitalOcean with more Indian regions on its map, including Mumbai and Delhi NCR when I checked. USD, hourly, Windows available at an extra charge. If you want a cloud API and a north-India region, this is the one to put a test IP against. Watch out for bandwidth allowances and the Windows licence line on the invoice.
4. Hostinger
The cheapest first year on the market, and a very polished buying experience. The KVM 1 plan shows 1 vCPU and 4 GB at $6.49 a month as an introductory price on a long term, and the same page states that it renews at $11.99 a month for two years. Ten datacenters are listed, "from Boston to Jakarta", with no Indian city named on the VPS page. Support is an AI assistant with human escalation.
Who it suits: users outside India, people who like hPanel, and anyone who treats the first-term price as the real price and plans to move before renewal. Our page-by-page comparison goes into the renewal maths.
5. Contabo
Nobody sells more RAM per rupee. Cloud VPS 4 lists 4 vCPU, 8 GB and 100 GB SSD from €4.40 a month, on a 24-month term, with India listed among its regions. You pay for that with a two-year commitment behind the headline price, a 200 Mbit/s port, and support in European hours.
Who it suits: bulk storage, backup targets, test boxes, anything where RAM matters and latency and support do not. Think harder before putting the production server customers hit on it. Comparison with Contabo.
6. MilesWeb
An Indian host with Mumbai servers, INR billing and a managed option with cPanel. A reasonable pick if you want somebody else to run the box and you are in western India. Check what DDoS protection and backups cost on the plan you choose; they vary by tier. Expect Indian support hours and a familiar panel.
7. E2E Networks
An Indian cloud platform with a strong GPU line, Indian regions and INR billing. More than a VPS, and the right place to look if you also need GPU instances for a model or a render farm. For a plain web server it is more platform than you need.
8. Hetzner
Cheap, well run, and nowhere near India. Germany, Finland, the USA and Singapore. For a European audience I would pick it without hesitation; for an Indian one the distance settles the question. Linux only on its cloud page, EUR billing. Comparison with Hetzner.
9. BigRock
A big Indian brand best known for domains and shared hosting, with VPS plans billed in INR. Familiar to many small businesses already, and the path of least resistance if your domain and email are already there. Read the renewal price and the add-on list before comparing on the headline.
10. Linode, now Akamai
A Mumbai region, a tidy cloud, USD billing. Essentially the DigitalOcean alternative for western India, with the same caveats on currency and Windows, and Akamai's network behind it.
Side by side
| Provider | India location on its site | Entry plan | Renewal | Currency | DDoS | Windows |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| URLStart | Noida, Delhi NCR (Tier IV) and Mumbai | 4 GB, 2 vCPU, ₹584/mo annual | Same price | INR + GST | Included | Included |
| DigitalOcean | Bangalore | 512 MB, 1 vCPU, $4/mo | Same | USD | Not stated | Not offered |
| Vultr | Mumbai, Delhi NCR (listed) | See site | Same | USD | See site | Available |
| Hostinger | None named on VPS page | 4 GB, 1 vCPU, $6.49/mo intro | $11.99/mo | USD | Filtering | Not on VPS page |
| Contabo | India (listed) | 8 GB, 4 vCPU, from €4.40/mo on 24 months | See terms | EUR/USD/GBP | Included | Add-on |
| Hetzner | None | See site (EUR) | Same | EUR | Not stated | Not listed |
| MilesWeb, E2E, BigRock, Linode | Mumbai or other Indian regions | See site | Check | INR or USD | Check | Check |
The "see site" cells are deliberate. I only print a figure I read on the provider's page this month.
Which provider for which job
| You need | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A WordPress site for north-Indian readers | URLStart, Vultr Delhi NCR | Latency to NCR, INR or near-INR total |
| A WordPress site for west-Indian readers | URLStart Mumbai, Linode, MilesWeb | Mumbai datacenters |
| A WordPress site for south-Indian readers | DigitalOcean | Bangalore region |
| Windows, RDP, Tally, MT4 | URLStart | Licence included, Noida desktop feels local from NCR |
| An API-driven deployment | DigitalOcean, Vultr | API, Terraform, managed services |
| Cheapest possible RAM for a backup target | Contabo | 8 GB from €4.40 on a two-year term |
| GPU alongside the VPS | E2E Networks | GPU instances in India |
| European audience | Hetzner | Best value in the EU |
| Cheapest first year, then move | Hostinger | $6.49 intro, $11.99 renewal |
Reading a VPS price page: eight words that change the bill
Most of the confusion in comparing providers is vocabulary. These are the terms that most often hide a cost.
vCPU. A virtual core. Whether it is dedicated (reserved for you) or shared (contended with neighbours) is the question; the number alone means little.
Burstable. Resources you can use when nobody else is. Fine for a quiet site, misleading for a busy one.
Fair use. Unmetered bandwidth with a cap in the terms. Find the cap.
Introductory, promotional, first term. The price ends. Find the renewal.
Managed. Somebody else patches and configures the box. Costs more, and the definition of "managed" varies from "we install the panel" to "we are your sysadmin".
Licence included. For Windows, this is the difference between the Linux price and the Linux price plus a monthly licence.
Port speed. 200 Mbit/s and 1 Gbps are a five-fold difference in how fast you can move a backup or serve a download. It is on the spec sheet, usually in small type.
SLA. 99.5% permits about 44 hours of downtime a year; 99.95% about four and a half. Read what the credit is if they miss it.
Mistakes we see on support, from people who moved to us
Choosing the entry plan and then wondering why MySQL keeps dying. 512 MB or 1 GB is not enough for anything with a database; 4 GB is the realistic floor.
Buying on the first-term price and discovering the renewal on an auto-charged card a year later.
Hosting a Delhi business in Singapore because the provider said "Asia".
Paying for a cPanel licence on a single-site server that would have been happier with no panel at all.
Not keeping their own backup because "the host does backups". Every host's backup is for the host's disaster, not yours. Keep an off-site copy.
Choosing, in about fifteen minutes
Write down where your users are. Mostly Delhi NCR or the north: start with Noida. Mostly the west: Mumbai. Mostly the south: start with Bangalore. Spread everywhere: choose on billing and support and stop worrying about a few milliseconds.
Then ask your two or three shortlisted providers for a test IP and ping it from the office. Price the second year, including Windows, DDoS, a panel and backups if you need them. Finally, open a support ticket at ten at night with a real question and see who answers, and how. Those three things will tell you more than any list, including this one.
Questions we get asked
Which VPS is cheapest in India? Depends what you mean. Contabo on RAM per rupee, Hostinger for the first term, DigitalOcean if 512 MB is enough. For 4 GB with Windows and DDoS included and a renewal that does not move, our ₹584 is the lowest total I know of. The price calculator will give you the figure for your size.
Does location really matter for a website? A page makes dozens of requests, and each one pays the round trip. For Indian readers, a server in India is a free speed-up. For RDP, Tally or trading it is the whole experience.
Is USD billing a problem? Not always. It means conversion at your bank's rate, perhaps an international card fee, and GST filed by you under reverse charge rather than shown on the invoice.
Managed or unmanaged? If you or your developer are at home with SSH, unmanaged. If you would rather click, add Plesk or cPanel. Most of our customers do the second.
What is the difference between VPS and cloud hosting? Marketing, mostly. Both are virtual machines on shared hardware. "Cloud" usually implies hourly billing and an API; "VPS" usually implies a monthly plan. The hardware underneath is the same idea.
How much RAM do I need? 4 GB for a blog or a small app, 8 GB for a WooCommerce store or several sites, 16 GB for an agency fleet or a modded game server. If in doubt, start smaller and resize; most providers, including us, do it in place.
Is a VPS secure? As secure as you make it. The provider secures the hardware and the network; the operating system, updates, firewall and passwords are yours. A panel helps if you do not want to do that by hand.
Can I move later? Yes. Changing VPS provider is a copy of files and databases plus a DNS change. We do the move free for anyone coming to us.
