    TL;DR
  • An Indian hosting provider charges GST at 18% and issues a tax invoice with its GSTIN. A registered business can usually claim that GST back as input tax credit.
  • The effective cost of a ₹584 plan to a registered business is ₹584; the 18% is reclaimed.
  • A foreign provider billing in USD does not show GST. A registered Indian business generally has to pay it itself under reverse charge and then claim it, which means more paperwork, plus currency conversion and card fees.
  • Ask your CA about your own case; this is the general picture, not tax advice.

This is a hosting company's explanation of how GST applies to the hosting bill. It is not tax advice; your CA knows your situation.

For a registered business in India, a hosting GST invoice is worth more than it looks. It decides whether the 18% on the bill is a cost or a credit.

What a hosting GST invoice should show

An Indian hosting provider registered for GST charges tax at 18% on hosting services and issues a tax invoice showing its legal name, address, GSTIN, your business name and GSTIN, the service description, the taxable value and the tax. Our invoices carry a Uttar Pradesh GSTIN, since the company is registered in Noida. Whether the tax appears as CGST and SGST or as IGST depends on whether your business is registered in the same state.

How input tax credit works on hosting

If your business is registered under GST and uses the hosting for business, you can generally claim the GST you paid as input tax credit against the GST you collect from your own customers. In practice, that 18% does not stay a cost. A ₹584 plan billed at ₹689 effectively costs a registered business ₹584.

For the credit to flow, the invoice needs your correct GSTIN, and the provider has to report the invoice in its own return so it appears in your GSTR-2B. Check that it does each month; a missing entry is easiest to fix early.

What changes with a foreign provider

A provider billing from abroad in dollars or euros does not charge Indian GST on its invoice. For a registered Indian business, the tax does not disappear: it is generally paid by you under reverse charge, then claimed back as credit, which means an extra entry in your returns every month. On top of that, the bank converts at its own rate and many cards add a foreign-transaction fee, which is a real cost and not reclaimable.

For an unregistered individual or business, a foreign provider's price is simply the converted amount plus card fees.

A small comparison

Two plans with the same specs, one at ₹584 from an Indian provider and one at about $7 from abroad:

Paying in a way your accounts like

Pay by UPI, net banking or card in rupees and download the tax invoice from the client area each month. If several companies in a group use servers, order them under the right legal entity from the start; changing the billing entity later means new invoices and sometimes a migration.

Questions we get asked

Do you charge GST? Yes, 18%, with a tax invoice carrying our UP GSTIN.

Can I get the invoice in my company's name with our GSTIN? Yes; add it to your client profile before the invoice is generated.

Is the annual plan's GST charged up front? GST is charged on each invoice, so on an annual plan it is on the annual invoice.

What if my GSTIN was missing on an invoice? Contact billing; we can correct it before the return is filed.

Does the server location affect GST? The company and invoice are Indian whether your server is in Noida or Mumbai.
